It is a Japanese nursery rhyme with lyrics by Yoshimi Sato and music by Megumi Onaka. In 2007 (Heisei 19), it was selected as one of the top 100 Japanese songs. The song was first aired on NHK’s “Uta no Picture Book” on October 10, 1961, and the song became even more popular. It is also played as a standard song on the successor program “Okaasan to Issho”.
