This is a Japanese children’s song. It is well known as a song about Mount Fuji. It first appeared in the “Ordinary Elementary School Reader Songs” published in 1910 (Meiji 43). It is designated as a common singing material for third graders in the music section of the elementary school curriculum guidelines (the title is “Fujiyama”).
