実写作品に引けを取らない本格的なドラマ作りを目指していたため、音楽の方向性としても『太陽にほえろ!』のようなサスペンスドラマタッチなものを当初から検討していた。その後、音楽プロデューサーが同ドラマの音楽担当である大野克夫に直接依頼して快諾してもらえたため、本作の劇伴担当に決定した。なお、大野へは「アニメの音楽を作って」ではなく「『コナン』というミステリードラマを作りたいので、大人も楽しめる部分も際立たせて」という形で楽曲制作を依頼している。(フリー百科事典 ウィキペディア日本語版より：https://x.gd/wmppn)
